Theresa “Tessie” (Viering) Stockmann, age 95, a longtime resident of Lackawaxen, PA died peacefully at Twin Cedar Assisted Living on January 28, 2023. The daughter of the late Eugen and Josefin (Martin) Viering, she was born July 3, 1927, in Eltmann, Germany.

Theresa moved to Brooklyn, New York as a young woman where she worked, took English classes, became a US Citizen, and met her late husband, William Stockmann (deceased 1976). She and her husband moved to Lackawaxen, PA in 1965. Many know “Tessie” from when she worked at Jungle Jim’s Tavern in Lackawaxen, PA and the Cuckoo’s Nest Restaurant in Bohemia, PA. She was a member of the Lackawaxen Volunteer Fire Dept., Ladies Auxiliary, the Lackawaxen VFW Post 5635, Ladies Auxiliary, and St Ann’s Roman Catholic Church in Shohola, PA.

Theresa is preceded in death by her two sisters, Gertrude Schuler and Anna Bock and her brother Peter Viering. She is survived by her nephews, Werner Schuler and Rainer Bock, and a Niece, Margitte (Bock) Heinrich, and many grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was a hardworking, loving and giving women and will be greatly missed by many. She enjoyed collecting dolls, baking cookies, gardening, and most of all caring for children.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2023, from 11am to 1pm at the Harrison Rasmussen Funeral Home 3412 SR97, Barryville, NY 12719. A prayer service will follow visitation at 1pm in the funeral home. Burial will be in Lackawaxen Cemetery, Lackawaxen, PA.
