Mary L. Faggione, (Sister Christine), 90, a longtime resident of the area, passed away on Monday May 15, 2023, at Bon Secour Community Hospital, Port Jervis, NY. The daughter of the late Edward and Walburga (Roehrig) Riehl, was born on May 1, 1933, in Detroit, Michigan. She was sister to James Riehl (Norma) (both deceased), Elizabeth Riehl (deceased) and Robert Riehl (Joyce). She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. She graduated from Dominican High School as President of her Senior Class, with both academic and athletic accolades. She was also a graduate of DePaul University and LaSalle College in which she held two bachelor’s degrees and a master’s degree. Sister Christine was a retired Nun/religious teacher and Adrian Dominican Sister. She taught school in Chicago, New Jersey, New York, and Detroit, 3rd grade to 8th grade, and taught math in high school. She was very fluent in German and taught some language classes. She taught RCIA at St. Mary’s Port Jervis, Ny. After many years of teaching, she retired from religious life and later married John Paulison (deceased). A few years later she fell in love again and married James Faggione, Sr. (deceased). She always felt so fortunate to be a part of his children’s lives. She was predeceased by James Faggione, Jr. and is survived by Thomas Faggione, John Faggione (Erin), Kathleen Reed (Jason) and Colleen Koenig (Marc). She will dearly miss her four grandchildren, Anthony Nicholas Faggione, Kassandra Weatherly, Molly Koenig, and Adam Koenig. She was a member of the lay Dominican order and a member of the Catholic Daughters. She had an active role at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Narrowsburg, NY, St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Port Jervis, NY and St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Lords Valley PA. Throughout Christine’s life one thing has remained first and foremost…her love for The Lord our God. She will also be remembered by many close friends including Father Dennis M. Dinan and Gladys Ann Nolan (Micheal). Christine’s constant positivity on life has impacted many.
Visitation will be Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at Harrison Rasmussen Funeral Home in 3412 SR97 , Barryville, NY from 3-7 and Thursday May 25, 2023 from 9:30am to 10:30am . Funeral will be held Thursday, May 25, 2023, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church 151 Bridge St. Narrowsburg, NY.
