Edwin O. Jackson II, 85, of Narrowsburg, NY, a longtime resident, passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at Garnet Health Medical Center, Middletown, NY. The son of the late Edwin O. and Edith Jackson, he was born on January 7, 1937 in Great Neck, NY.  He was a graduate of Great Neck High School. Ed was a US Navy Veteran.  He was stationed at the famed Miramar Flight Training School where he served as a mechanic.   After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he worked at and eventually owned Jacksons Service Station in Great Neck, NY.  He also was in the Steamfitters Union Local 638.  Ed was proud of his Native American Heritage, part of the Onondaga Tribe, of Syracuse, NY.  He was instrumental in getting the 911 Memorial placed in the town of Narrowsburg which can now be viewed at the overlook. In 2019, Ed was invited to take the Veterans Honor Flight to Washington, DC.   

Ed was a member and captain of the Great Neck Vigilant Fire Dept.  He was a member of Beaver Brook Rod and Gun Club, NRA, Chairman of the Tusten Planning Board, and mostly recently named President of the North East Region New York State Planning Board Federation.  He was head of the Empire State Performance Rally.  He was an avid Nascar, Sprintcar and Indycar fan.  He had a passion for auto racing, and his favorite driver was number 88.   He also had a love for boats and fishing.

Later on, Ed and Christine rescued retired thoroughbred race horses for many years and even built a farm to house them and many other rescue animals. A family statement reads: “Ed was a loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather. He was devoted to the betterment of the hamlet of Narrowsburg in the Town of Tusten and volunteered many hours of service throughout his life. He will be greatly missed and forever loved by all that knew him.”   

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, they met 60 years ago in high school: Christine (Randall), daughters: Jennifer Daly and her husband Seamus of Monroe, NJ, Elisa McMorrow and her husband Francis of Woodside, Queens, Diane Pues and her husband Michael of Sayreville, NJ, son: Kenneth Ferman and his wife Leah of Jersey City, NJ, grandchildren: Michael Silverberg Wirth, Lisa Pepe and Jackson Duff, great grandchildren: Adalaide Elizabeth, Eleanore Pearl, Mayla-Rue Sunshine and Emma Elizabeth, as well as Uncle to his cherished niece Rebecca Chirchick, her husband Adam, their children: Eden, Shiloh, Delilah and Abraham and son-in-law Chris Stralka.   

Ed is predeceased by his daughter Stacy Stralka and his brother Dr. Scott Jackson.    

Memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2022 from 12:00 noon to 4:00pm at the Harrison Rasmussen Funeral Home, 3412 Sr.97, Barryville, NY 12719.  Military Honors will be at 4:00pm in the funeral home.
