Allen Edward Murphy of Barryville, NY (formally Godeffroy, NY) passed away peacefully at home on February 14, 2023; he was 66.

Born on March 5, 1956, Allen was the third born of four to the late Thomas and Frances (Delaney) Murphy in Port Jervis, NY. Allen attended elementary school at Saint Mary’s in Port Jervis, NY and John S. Burke Catholic High School, Class of 1974.

After graduating from high school, Allen joined the United States Air Force and shortly thereafter, he met his bride-to-be. Allen met his wife, Susan (Huff) Murphy while they served in the Air Force and he fell in love at first sight. Whenever recalling the story, he would say he saw Susan from across the chow hall and “she was the prettiest thing the Air Force had ever seen”. Together they had three children who stole his heart.

Allen is survived by the love of his life and wife of 45 years, Susan; three daughters, Erin Nelson and her husband Matthew, of Barryville, Molly Murphy of Yulan, and Allison Murphy and her wife Ashley, of Philadelphia, PA. Additionally, he is survived by his greatest legacy, six grandchildren: Natalie, Kieran, Susanna, Quinn, Bradley, and Colin. Among the many titles he has held in his life, “Poppy” was his favorite. Allen is also survived by his siblings Tom Murphy of Skaneateles, NY, Nancy Warth and her husband Peter of Wurtsboro, NY, and Mary Carroll and her husband Declan of Milford, PA. He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. They may take comfort in knowing that he will never again be interrupted during a Giants game, though his favorite part was calling his best buddy, Wayne Kidney, to argue over a multi-decade old bet over a 10 dollar bill.

Allen will be most fondly remembered by his family and friends as a subdued but charming man with an impeccable sense of humor, with the ability to curate the perfect front lawn, a fantastic golf swing, and his endless and never wavering love for his family.

A party will be held to celebrate his life on his favorite holiday, Saint Patrick’s Day, please reach out to his family for details.
