George W. Nieke

George W. Nieke of Eldred, NY, a lifelong resident passed away on Dec.31, 2021 at home surrounded by his family.   He was born on July 23, 1940 in Barryville, NY to the late George and Leona (Beisel) Nieke.  He was 81 years old.

George was retired from Sullivan County Division of Public Works, he was a sign shop supervisor.   George was a member of St. Jacobi Lutheran Church, Shohola, PA.

George was married for 46 years to Arleen (Albers) Nieke.  She survives.  They used to love to go to Florida for the winters.  George was an avid golfer and fisherman.  He was a former member of the Freemason fraternity.  He was a member of the Highland Seniors and the Lumberland Seniors.

George is survived by his wife: Arleen, son: Roger Nieke and his wife Shannon, stepson: Adam Cobb, stepdaughter: Caroline Wagner and her husband Ronald, sister: Nancy Bachelder, 8 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

George is predeceased by sons Russell, Rodney, sisters: Gloria, Leona and Lorraine.

Friends are invited to call on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 from 3:00pm to 6:00pm, and Thursday, January 6, 2022 from 10:00am to 11:00am at the Harrison Rasmussen Funeral Home 3412 SR97, Barryville, NY 12719.  Funeral Services will follow visitation on Thursday at 11:00am.  Christian burial will follow services in Montoza Cemetery, Eldred, NY.
