Chester M. Sparling Sr. 81, of Shohola, PA, formerly of Glen Spey, NY, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, September 11, 2025. Born on October 5, 1943, in Teaneck, NJ, he was the son of the late Melvin and Dora (DeGroat) Sparling. Chester was married over 51 years to the late JoAnn M. Sparling. They met while Chester was visiting his sister in Queens. They built a life together grounded in love, family, and commitment. Chester proudly served in the United States Army, from which he was honorably discharged after three years of service. He later worked as a Supervisor for Con Edison until his retirement. A true outdoorsman, Chester loved fishing, hunting, camping, and boating. He cherished his country life and especially enjoyed his time with family and friends, while staying in Baileys Lake and his happy place, Trails End. A lover of the casino, he always enjoyed his time playing blackjack for countless hours. Deeply involved in his community, Chester was an active member of the Highland Seniors and served as former president of the Lumberland Seniors. Keeping active in his retirement he worked at Harry’s Convenience Store in Shohola where he could always be seen in his shirt and tie and wearing a smile. Chester is survived by his daughter Dawn-Marie Dalsass and her partner Craig Cronenberg of Shohola, PA, son, Chester M Sparling, Jr and wife Brittany Pflanz of Lackawaxen, PA,; grandsons Zacryan Dalsass, Curtis Dalsass, Rory Sparling, granddaughters Vada Sparling, Ryleigh Sparling and Zoey Sparling; great-granddaughter Autumn-Rose Dalsass; and sisters Beverly Walsh, Barbara Cisco, and Gladys Turell. Chester also stepped up as a father figure to his brother in law Peter E Nau who he affectionately called Sammy when his father passed away in 1968. He will be remembered for his warm heart, strong spirit, smart-ass remarks, quick wit and the joy he found in family, friends. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 14, 2025 from 12:00pm to 3:00pm. Military Service will be held in the funeral home. Burial of cremains will be in Calverton National Cemetery, Wading River, New York.
