Shirley (Paulus) Haupt (94) a long time resident of Greeley, PA and recently a resident of Belle Reve Assisted living in Milford, PA entered peacefully into eternal rest on December 14, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. Daughter of the late Charles Paulus and Ethel (Sutherland) Paulus, she was born in Shohola, PA on July 7, 1931.
She is survived by her children, Cindy Schmalzle and her husband Donald of Ellenville, NY and Gerry Haupt and his wife, April of Cumberland, RI. Five grandchildren, Amy Ezekiel and her husband Joshua of Colonie, NY; Laura Villegas of Ellenville, NY; Matthew Haupt and his wife Emily of Oakdale, CT; Alexander Haupt and his partner Alexa Radson of Brookline, MA, and James Haupt and his fiancé Jane Kayarian of Brookline MA. Six great-grandchildren, Olivia and Liana Villegas of Ellenville; Logan and Caleb Ezekiel of Colonie, NY and Kaylee and Lillian Haupt of Oakdale, CT. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of sixty-three years, Warren “Pete” Haupt; her son, Dwight Haupt; her great-granddaughter, Makenzie Haupt; and two brothers, Charles and Donald Paulus.
Shirley was a graduate of Eldred Central School where she lettered in basketball; and then furthered her education at Wilford Academy in New York City. She, along with her late husband were co-owners of Haupt Brother’s Market in Lackawaxen, PA for over 20 years. After retiring she and her husband became snowbirds and split their time between Barefoot Bay, FL and Greeley, PA. They enjoyed many clubs and activities while in their Florida home and played shuffleboard for 20 years. They enjoyed extensive travelling by visiting all 50 states as well as many European Countries, Canada and Mexico.
Shirley was a life-long member of the Barryville United Methodist Church and life member of Eastern Stars. She also was a member of the Greeley and Lackawaxen Fire Departments Ladies Auxiliary, and the Lackawaxen Volunteer Ambulance Corp. During her years at Belle Reve, she loved playing Bingo, attending bible study, watching NY Mets games, reading, and doing word search puzzles.
Shirley loved to cook and bake and has left a legacy of favorite dishes and baked goods that her family continues to make. She loved spending time with her family and so enjoyed visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Barryville United Methodist Church at 11 AM on May 2nd. Interment of ashes will follow the service at the Lackawaxen and Union Cemetery, Lackawaxen, PA.
