Rev. Donald P. Beck 82, Honesdale, son of the late Christian and Madeleine Beck, went home to the Lord on July 31, 2022. He was born on September 27, 1939 in Long Island, NY.   Rev. Beck is survived by his wife Maggie of 25 years, the former Margaret Weber and three sons: Rev. Philip Beck and his wife Susan, Mt. Airy, Maryland; Daniel Beck, Sykesville, Maryland; and Michael Beck and his wife, Catherine, North Carolina; two Stepsons, Jason Utegg, Hawley, and Eric Utegg, Beach Lake, Pa; four grandchildren; Daniel Beck, Grace Beck, James and Wyatt Beck.; step grandchildren Joseph Utegg, Danielle Jackson, and Heather Utegg. He was predeceased by a sister Nancy.

He was Pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Narrowsburg, NY from 1964 to 1986 when he relocated to Babylon, NY and pastored Cross of Christ Lutheran Church till 1995. He then relocated to Wyomissing, PA and pastored several other churches till 2006 when he moved to Honesdale. He then pastored St. Luke Lutheran Church, Greeley, Pa until May 2020.

Rev. Beck was a member of the Narrowsburg Fire Dept. for 58 years. He served two terms as Assistant Chief from 1966-1968 and 1977-1979 and served three terms as Fire Chief 1968-1970, 1973-1975 and 1980-1981. He was appointed as one of the first Sullivan County Fire Coordinators. In March 1966 he was appointed Deputy Coordinator of District 1 in charge of fire training for the county. He also assisted in the formation of the Sullivan County Dive Unit based in Narrowsburg from 1966-1986.  Using his experience in emergency medical services he was instrumental in the 1969 formation of the Tusten Volunteer Ambulance Service and was an active member for many years. He also taught the 90 hour EMT Course at Sullivan County Community College for many years.

Pastor Beck was also an active member of the Sullivan County Firemen’s Association and Sullivan County Fire Police Association and served as Sullivan County Fire Chaplain.  In addition to these emergency service activities: he volunteered as a Town of Tusten Constable for 10 years and helped to promote gun safety, teaching Hunter Safety in NY and PA for over 25 years.

Viewing will be held Thursday, August 4, 2022 from  5:00 to 8:00 PM and Friday, August 5, 2022, from 10:00am to 11:00, at the Narrowsburg Union, 7 Erie Street, Narrowsburg, NY 12764.  The funeral will be held Friday, August 5, 2022, at 11:00 AM following the visitation at the Narrowsburg Union. in Narrowsburg, NY.
