Pauline Johnson-Hofer a long time area resident, passed away.  She was born on Long Island to Thomas and Sofie Dorst Johnson.

Pauline graduated from Adelphia University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing while working as a registered nurse, she continued her education and earned her Doctorate of Education from the Teachers College at Columbia University.  She became a tenured professor at Pace University and then at Long Island University.  As a academic she published several articles in professional journals and books.  She enjoyed working as a nurse and nurse educator and found both rewarding.  While working in the area healthcare facilities, Pauline became acutely aware that lower paid health care providers had a difficult time providing for their children, this motivated her to establish the St Francis Children’s Shop, a nonprofit thrift shop for children and infants in Monticello.  The shop was later relocated to White Lake.

Pauline was a member of the Cochecton Ambulance Core, the Preservation Society and Beautification Committee.  She was also a Sullivan County Literacy volunteer.  Pauline was elected to the Cochecton Town Board and later served on the Board of Assessment Review.  She is survived by two nephews, Steven and Douglas, two grand nephews and two grand daughters Morgan Pretty and Quinn Hofe.

Pauline was predeceased by her brother Thomas and sister Kathleen.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday April 11, 2026 at 10:00am at St. Francis Xavier Church, 151 Bridge Street, Narrowsburg, NY.  Burial of cremains will immediately follow in St. Francis Xavier cemetery.
