Marcella Elaine Bruning, affectionately known as Marcy, passed away at home on April 2, 2025 surrounded by her family. Marcy was born January 18, 1963 in Yonkers, NY to James and Mary (Melvin) Burpoe. Marcy graduated from Minisink Valley High School, and later on earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services, dedicating her life to helping people with mental health challenges. Marcy was married to Thomas Bruning for 43 wonderful years. Marcy was a beautiful soul with a huge heart and a splash of craziness. She loved to shop, camp, and cherished time spent with her grandchildren.

Marcy is survived by her daughters, Rebecca (James) Morabito of Glen Spey, NY, Jennifer Bruning of Scranton, PA, and stepdaughter Kerrieanne Deatcher of Tullahoma, TN; her grandchildren, Josh, Jonathan, Ashley, Matthew, Emmah, and Alliannah Morabito, DaisyMae Bruning, Gunner VanTuyl, Amaiah and Dakota Fuller, David Gambill, and Paul Denton; and Great Granchildren, Mason and Jason Perry, and Payten Fahnestock. Siblings, Peg Avery of FL, James (Jeanette) Burpoe of Slate Hill, NY, Benno Larsen of Vero Beach, FL, Michael (Katja) Burpoe of Broomfield, CO, Ellen (Noel) Melendez of Bullville, NY, Patrick Burpoe of Greentown, PA, Kathleen (Michael) Donatello of Utica, NY, and Margaret (Dennis) Simpson of Middletown, NY; as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Marcella was predeceased by her parents, James and Mary Burpoe, her sisters Maryann and Georgeann Burpoe, and her granddaughter Amanda Morabito.

Marcy’s impact on the lives of others will be remembered fondly by her family and friends. Marcy will be missed by all that knew her.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 6, 2025 at 12 Noon – 2:00pm, at the Harrison Rasmussen Funeral Home, 3412 SR 97, Barryville, NY 12719.
