Share your Memorial with Family & Friends
Kenneth Norman Dill, 91, moved onto his resting place from the comfort of his own home in Narrowsburg, NY on the morning of May 22, 2025. His wife, Lois Dill, worked tirelessly providing him with 24 hour care for the past several years tending to his every wish and need. The love that she has shown has been immense and completely selfless – we all are eternally grateful for all you sacrificed to keep Ken as happy and healthy as he possibly could be.
Ken was born in Greenville, SC on July 27, 1933. He graduated from Greer HS in 1952 and was a Military student Bugler. In June 1952, Ken joined the Navy and became a US Navy Hospital Corpsman working in the Delivery room delivering babies.
He then went on to work at Pilgrim State Psychiatric Hospital for 34 years as a Mental Health
Therapy Aide (MHTA) providing direct services and support to individuals with mental illness. Ken was also a Drug & Alcohol Counselor providing counseling assessment, and treatment planning for individuals with substance abuse disorders educating clients on coping mechanisms, identifying potential recovery interference, and plan for discharge. He met his wife Lois and a host of friends that turned into family including Ernestine Shelton, Katherine Broadhurst, Pat List, Carmen Benitez and Jamie Kaminski.
Ken began working in 1992 at Rehabilitation Support Services in Monticello, NY as the Transportation Coordinator. He transported the clients to their jobs, medical appointments and shopping. In line with RSS’ mission to empower the people they serve, Ken also counseled individuals with psychiatric and substance abuse disorders. He believed a history of disability or being disadvantaged should not preclude someone from realizing his or her full potential or ability to lead a productive life. He made life long friends there including Cheryl Kolvenbach, Tiffanie Berman, Sharon Conklin, John, Susan, and the Late Debbie among many others.
Kenneth was witty with his clever, humorous comebacks. His lighthearted, carefree sense of humor was evident in one of his favorite Southern phrases “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!” His love of motorcycle riding stems from a unique blend of freedom, adventure and adrenaline. It was a way to connect with the road, experience the wind, and push personal boundaries. His passion for recreational rifle shooting for fun and relaxation allowed him to connect with nature and enjoy the outdoors. A passion for music manifested in various ways, from playing the trumpet, to singing in church, and listening to Johnny Cash – his favorite musical artist. He was an avid reader of James Patterson’s writing whose novels often blend thriller and suspense elements with emotionally compelling characters such as Alex Cross.
Ken was the youngest of four children of the late Ernest David and Esmer Greer Dill.
Predeceased by late sisters Venice (Sessoms), Paytralle (Ben) and late brother Ernest Deloy (Marcia). He had fond memories of his childhood and adolescence, often reflecting on his high school sweetheart Dot and the simple pleasures of life in the 20th century. Although life took him on a journey leaving his birth place in the south – his Southern Charm never ceased to express itself.
While in the Navy, Ken met his first wife Barbara and wed October 25, 1954 and resided in Bayshore, NY. They built a beautiful family of six children: Daughter Karen (Late Michael), Grand Children Tristen and Thomas, Great-Grand Children Rowan, Giavanna, Elijah, and Mylah; Son Kenneth (Janette), Grand Children Justine, the Late KJ, Great-Grand Child Datura; Son Keith (Alejandra); Son the Late Kevin; Daughter Kim (Robert), Grand Children Dylan (Brianna), Dominic, and Great-Grand Children Josiah and Haven; Daughter Kris (Paul), Grand Child Grace.
Ken and Lois wed October 26, 1986 and resided in Brentwood, NY making life-long friends that became family. Some of these people include the Mathie Family Nel, Nestor, Giselle, & Wayne, and Joseph Benitez. A few years later they moved to the Western Catskills where they built their home in Narrowsburg, NY. Here they have fond memories spent with friends visiting for the weekend – in particular Pat & Je where they would watch watch Gosford Park on New Years Eve. They became a blended family including Daughter Monica (Jamie), Grand Children Deven (Brandy) & Ariana, Great Grand Aidin; Daughter Kim (Dyschel), Grand Child Katherine; Son Clarence (Kitty), Grand Children Kaila, Kali (Jair), and Brandon.
Ken’s grandchildren called him a myriad of loving names including Pa, Grandpa, and Grandpa Apple.
We will forever be reminded of Ken (Pa) when listening to Johnny Cash, smelling fresh coffee, and thinking about pimento cheese sandwiches.
