March 17, 1970-January 13, 2022.

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Joshua David Glantz, 51 in his home after a lifetime of battling health related issues. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Sue; mother, Janet Glantz; father, David Glantz; mother-on-law, Dorothy Smith; father-in-law Jerold Hall; brother-in-law Steven Hall; sister-in-law Michelle Hall; and nephews Connor and Matthew Hall. After graduating from Unatego High School, Joshua pursued a degree in history at Binghamton University. Upon completion of a masters degree in education at Binghamton, Joshua began his career at Eldred Central School District in September of 1994. Over his career Joshua helped kids develop a literary journal, win a Black Bear’s Film Festival award, and obtain Computer Repair certification. He successfully obtained multiple grants to help fund technology for ECSD, and then wired the school and introduced Smartboards to Sullivan county. Joshua spent several hours during lunch breaks and after school helping improve students’ writing. He also ran a Gaming Club, introducing students to the value of math, cooperation and sportsmanship with electronic, Euroboard Games, and Warhammer miniatures. As a kidney recipient, Joshua strove to educate students about the importance of living healthy and being persistent. Joshua and his family created The Gift of Life scholarship for students pursuing a career in medicine. He was awarded the first annual Can’t Hurt Steel award in 2016. While being a two-time recipient of the Sullivan County School Boards Association’s Outstanding Educator Award in 2013 and again in 2019, the biggest reward for Joshua were the kind words of acknowledgement of post-graduate student success attributed to him. He stressed that we be kind, curious, and, above all, play a game and have fun with one another.

A celebration of Joshua’s life is planned in the Spring.
