John D. Vogt, 68, a lifelong resident of the area, passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2024. John was the son of the late John F. and Janith (Boyd) Vogt, he was born March 14, 1956 in Callicoon.

John was self-employed as a contractor and heavy equipment operator.   He was a member of the Highland Field & Stream. A founding member of the Highland Water Fowlers.  He was a former member of the Beaver Brook Rod and Gun Club and helped build the trap range.

A family statement reads: “John was a loving and caring father and proud grandfather and spending time with family was his joy.    He was an avid outdoorsman and conservationist. Dad will be forever cherished in our hearts and lovingly remembered by all.”  John contributed to many business ventures in the area including building of Cedar Rapids, he was the owner of the Lake DeVenoge Golf Course, Developer of Pyne Ayre Subdivison.

He is survived by his son John Thomas and wife Jamie: grandsons Jameson and Jhett Vogt, and his companion Carol Hulse, of Port Jervis.
