March 27, 1936 – February 9, 2026               

Jesse Paul Haley, aged 89 Years, of Hillside, Barryville NY, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.  A devoted husband of 65 years to Mary Jane (Remmell) Haley, cherished father and proud grandfather, Jesse lived a life marked by love, dedication, generosity and kindness.  Jesse approached life with integrity and grace, leaving a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know and love him.

Born March 27, 1936, in the Bronx, the eldest of three sons to Elizabeth O’Callahan Haley and Jesse F. Haley, Jesse was an Alter Server and taught Confraternity of Christian Doctrine.  Following graduation from Cardinal Hayes High School, Jesse joined the US Marine Corps and rose to the rank of Sergeant, prior to completing his formal education at Oswego State Teacher’s College where he pitched for the college baseball team and met his bride-to-be Mary Jane Remmell.

Jesse embraced each day with generosity and a steadfast commitment to his family and community.  Jesse built a home for his growing family on Long Island, NY with the help of his brothers and friends.  He continued his post graduate work at CW Post College.  He served on the Suffolk County Auxiliary Police and taught Industrial Arts Education at the William Floyd High School in Mastic Beach, where he also coached the wrestling team until moving the family north to Sullivan County, NY.  Jesse accepted a teaching position at the Eldred Central School specializing in Industrial Arts Education and Driver Education, where he also coached the Track and Field Team, served as the district Transportation Supervisor and served as a Constable for the Town of Lumberland.

Known for his warm humor, gentle guidance, and unwavering faith, Jesse’s life was a testament to the values he held dear.  Jesse was an outdoor enthusiast, enjoying boating, hunting, fishing  and long-distance running, completing three Marine Corps Marathons.   Retirement was a happy and exciting life sharing countless memorable moments including lakeside adventures and family outings.  When home from travel adventures with family, he could be found enjoying breakfasts at the former Rainbow Diner in Barryville, NY with his faithful dog, Whiskey.

Jesse is survived by his wife, Mary Jane, at home, daughter Jean Haley Corcoran and her husband James of Glen Spey NY, daughter Judiann Haley Petronis and her husband Michael of Harvard MA, grandson Brian Corcoran and his wife Maureen of Middletown, NY, grandson Jesse Corcoran of Goshen, NY, grandson Jon Sorrells of Harvard, MA, granddaughter Dr. Janet Sorrells of St Louis, MO, brother Stephen Haley and his wife Rita of The Villages in Florida, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.  Jesse was predeceased by children: John Francis, Janet Kathleen, and Michael Jesse, and by his brother Owen Haley and his wife Della formerly of Pearl River, NY.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Shohola, PA on Thursday February 12 at 10:30 a.m., followed by a memorial celebration of life.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Town of Lumberland Fire and Ambulance Department in his memory.

He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
