Gary J. Emeigh, Sr, aged 71, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2026 after a battle with cancer.
Gary was born in Bellmore, NY, the son of the late Perry and Gloria (VanDeven) Emeigh. He was raised in Long Island where he met and married the girl one block over, Debbie Higbie, beginning a love that would last over 53 years. While living in Long Island, he was part of a community he loved, the Bellmore volunteer fire department, a fire department his father Perry had been former chief of.
Gary and Debbie were married on October 18, 1974. Together they would move to the country and raise their 5 children in Narrowsburg, NY, where he continued his volunteer work with the Narrowsburg fire department for a short time. Gary was a hard worker, told a great story and joke, and had an infectious laugh. He loved Sunday car rides and The Beatles. He could use some ‘colorful’ language, and that made him who he was. His biggest gift and Accomplishment was the family he helped create. He was so proud of his children and his grandchildren.
Gary is survived by his beloved wife, Debbie; his children Heather (Aaron) Cornish, Gary (Bridgett) Emeigh, Karen (John Fox) Little, Kenny (Roseann) Emeigh, and Cheryl Tyler. His brother Perry (Jackie) Emeigh, sister in law Patricia (Vinny) Palazzola, brother in law Glenn (Marie) Higbie. Gary and Debbie’s legacy also will live on through his grandchildren, JJ, Marissa, Austin, Justin, Reese, Brittney, Christopher, Zachary, Hunter, Angelina, Hannah, Addison, Payton, Gage and Elizabeth, as well as the start of the newest generation (6 great grandchildren). And his good girl Luna.
He was predeceased by his parents Perry and Gloria Emeigh, his sister Catherine Emeigh Behar, and his mother and father in law Dorothy and Harry Higbie.
The family will gather for a celebration of life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to The American Cancer Society.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Harrison Rasmussen Funeral Home of Barryville, 3412 SR 97, Barryville, NY 12719 845 557-8010
