Edward “Ed” Coates, a longtime resident of the Callicoon area, passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 86 on October 24, 2025.

Ed was a devoted member of St. Francis Xavier Church in Narrowsburg and belonged to the Third Order of the Knights of Colu:mbus.

He is survived by his loving wife, JoAnn Stein-Coates; three children, Elizabeth Coleman and her companion Karl, Laura Smith and her husband Mike, and Edward Coates and his wife Sara; grandchildren Greg Coleman Jr. and his wife Lyrin, Rebecca Coleman, Michael Van Scott, Nicole Fieldman and her husband Keith, Philip Grippi and his wife Farzana, Amanda Johnson, Annika Coates, Archer Coates, and Abram Coates.

He is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Vilma Coates and Christine Stein, and two brothers-in-law, Timothy Stein and Nick Stein and his wife Helen.

Ed was predeceased by his parents, Helen (Arbruster) and Don Coates; and his brothers, Donald Coates and Robert Coates and his wife Mary.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, from 2:00–4:00 PM and 7:00–9:00 PM, and on Thursday, November 6, 2025, from 9:30–10:30 AM at Harrison Rasmussen Funeral Home, 3412 State Route 97, Barryville, NY.

A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 AM on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at St. Francis Xavier Church, 151 Bridge Street, Narrowsburg, NY 12764.
