Curtis J. Sommers, 81, of Yulan, NY, passed on Thursday, August 25, 2022 at Garnet Health Medical Center, Harris, NY. 

The son of the late Alexander and Jane (Patchen) Sommers, he was born on May 18, 1941 in Flushing, NY. He was a longtime resident of the area. Curtis was a NYPD Police Officer for 2 years before moving over to the NYFD.   He retired a Chief Engineer NYFD, Bronx.  He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church, Yulan NY.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.  He was a lifetime member of Beaver Brook Rod and Gun Club and a lifetime member of Shohola Rod and Gun Club.   He always measured the fish at the John Pallis, kids fish for fun at the Beaver Brook Rod and Gun Club.   In Curt’s youth he played semi-pro soccer.

A family statement reads: “Curt was a loving and caring father, grandfather and great grandfather.  He enjoyed fishing, but most of all he loved spending time with his family. He will greatly be missed.” 

He is survived by his two sons, Christopher Sommers and his wife Kim Hoskins of Ohio, Jerry Sommers and his wife Amy of Barryville, NY, his daughter, Laura Steff of Florida.  His six grandchildren and his two great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2022 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm, 7:00pm to 9:00pm and Friday, September 2, 2022 from 10:00AM to 10:30am at the Harrison Rasmussen Funeral Home, 3412 Sr.97, Barryville, NY 12719 

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 2, 2022 at 11:00am at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Yulan, NY.  Cremation will follow mass and burial of Kurt’s cremains will be in St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Eldred, NY.  Father Richard Bertone will officiate.
